PLAINFIELD, CT – All lanes on Interstate 395 North have reopened after a multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer temporarily shut down part of the highway Monday afternoon, according to local authorities.

The crash occurred shortly after the Moosup rest area, in the northbound lanes of I-395, prompting a swift response from multiple emergency crews. The Moosup Fire Department posted a traffic alert on Facebook at approximately 3:15 p.m., urging drivers to avoid the area and exercise caution as responders worked at the scene.

Emergency crews, including fire and rescue personnel and Connecticut State Police, arrived to find several vehicles involved in the collision. A tractor-trailer was among the vehicles, and officials said the crash caused significant traffic delays during the height of the afternoon commute. The fire department later posted an update confirming that all lanes had reopened and the scene had been cleared.

Connecticut State Police said no injuries were reported, but several vehicles required towing from the site. In addition to vehicle damage, a section of the highway’s guardrail sustained impact damage, which may require further repair by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

By 4:40 p.m., police confirmed that the crash scene had been fully cleared and traffic flow restored.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released further details about the number of vehicles involved or whether any citations were issued.

Drivers are reminded to remain alert and reduce speeds near rest areas and merging lanes, where sudden traffic changes are more likely to occur.
